A little over 18 months ago I got an invitation to my first moot. I’d never been to one before but had always been curious about them. But living in a smallish town, being a non-driver and not knowing any other Pagans, I never managed to get to one. But now there was one being set up in my local town and nervously I decided to go. I say nervously because I always felt that I wasn’t, how do I put this….. Pagan “enough”. My sole experience of other Pagans had been online and from books. Everyone seemed so much more experienced, confident and well….. more (stereotypical?) Pagan than me. Plus I even didn’t know how to describe myself really…. what type of Pagan am I? Should I have been worried? No. Granted it was a new Moot so it was very small for the first few months, but I have to say I am SO glad that I took the plunge. My Mooties have become such good friends. They have changed my life for the better. I have had, personally, a very difficult year but having the Mooties as friends and having the Moots to attend regularly kept me going through that year, kept me sane even.
And about that stereotypical Pagan thing. Well, maybe our Moot differs from others, I don’t know, but I fit in perfectly well. It’s ok that I don’t know what ‘box’ I fit into… in fact it’s ok not to fit into a ‘box’ at all! If you consider yourself Pagan, if you’re curious about Paganism… or if you just want to mix with tolerant accepting folk, you’re welcome to attend our Moot. And that is all good as far as I’m concerned.
